PILLOWTALK was a funk/pop/rock band from Stockholm, Sweden. The band played together for a few years in the late 90´s/early 2000´s and consisted of Stephan Samuelson (vocals), Robert Barrefelt (guitar), Mattias Cederstam (bass), and Olle Linderdahl (drums).
The band was formed by high school friends Robert Barrefelt and Mattias Cederstam. They both came from a background playing in rock/metal bands but wanted to explore a more melodic and groove oriented style or music. Inspired by bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jamiroquai they started writing songs together at Roberts house in the Stockholm suburb of Sollentuna. Soon after they recruited classmate Stephan Samuelson to be their singer. The band worked on finding their sound with Robert and Mattias providing the music that Stephan then added vocals to. The trio wrote songs for the better part of a year until they felt ready to record a demo. Drummer Olle Linderdahl, who had previously played with both Mattias and Robert in other bands, was added to the line-up and rehearsing moved to a cheap worndown rehearsal space in Solna, northern Stockholm.
A 4-track demo was recorded in Resync studios with producer Lars Norgren in April 2000. The band kept on writing new material and a second demo was recorded in the same studio soon after. It was released as an EP simply called "Pillowtalk" in early 2001 and also included three tracks from the first recording. A few hundred copies were made of the Pillowtalk EP.
The band had focused on writing and recording up until that point but now started working on their live act. Their first gig took place at the club "Patricia" in Stockholm. The performance included a couple of new tracks that saw the band moving towards a heavier more rock oriented sound. Soon after the gig, however, the band made the friendly decision to split up. Several band members had other musical projects alongside Pillowtalk and decided to focus on them instead. Robert went on playing with Dipstone, later also joined by drummer Olle. Mattias joined 60´s rock inspired band "Celebrate the Sun".
A decade later in 2009 Robert and Mattias started writing music together again. Just like in the beginning of Pillowtalk they started working as a duo, this time in Robert’s flat in central Stockholm, with a sound that mixed classic rock with Americana. The collaboration developed into the band SLIM LORIS which have released three full length albums and an EP up to date. http://www.slimloris.com/video.aspx
