Hey man, how are you? Doing great! First I have to congrats for the fine work with the first single "Worlds Away" from your forthcoming album "Borders & Fences." You can already hear the intro that it's a song out of the ordinary. How has the response been so far? It's been pretty good! Lot's of people seem to be digging it. Is it a song that represents how the album sounds? I would say so. It represents the diversity that the album has Your sound is like a mix of rock and pop in a nice package with a lot of energy. Think also that there are small dose of 80's rock embedded. Which bands have influenced you and would you describe the sound of Namesake? We have influences ranging from Def Leppard to 30 Seconds to Mars. Everyone in the band has some crazily drastic differentiation in music than the next guy, and it works for us You've worked with heavyweight producer James Paul Wisner (Paramore, Underoath, and New Found Glory) on your debut. How did you get in touch with him? I sent him an email one day with an acoustic demo which would eventually become one of the songs on our album "Saturday" He responded the next day with a personal phone call and it was all up hill from there How was it working with such a heavy producer like him? It must have been a learning experience? I'll never forget it. Our band not only grew to be better musicians, but to be better people as well. Our maturity grew quite substantially. Namesake is a new band to most people. Can you tell me about you and how you met? Well Kevin, Brad and I met in high school. We had played in bands together for years. When we got label support we were able to bring in members Troy and Seth to finish the line up. You are from Atlanta, Georgia. How is the music climate there now, there are some cool bands besides you? Honestly there used to be. The rock scene has died within the last few years, which has just made us eager to break out of the local scene and get into the national scene. Ahh, isn't Butch Walker from there? Have you seen the Marvelous 3 play live there or where you to young? There are actually some similarities to you and them I am a HUGE Butch Walker fan. Unfortunately I have not seen his band perform, but I have seen videos on youtube. I would love the possibility of working with him one day Have you always been called Namesake and how birth name? Oddly enough my mom came up with the name. We were all namesakes of our fathers. But her being my mom we were all like "Pshhh that's so lame" We did a photo shoot with our photographer at the time Ryan Gibson and the topic came up and he said it was awesome. Next thing we knew we had dubbed ourselves namesake Think that your music works really well live with all the energy along with the catchy melodies. How would you describe you as a live band? We are definitely your out of the ordinary pop rock band. We hit you with every aspect those genres have to offer, and we pride ourselves in that fact ;) Any smashed guitars so far :) Not yet... But that doesn't mean it won't happen And if you compare to be creative in the studio making music or reach out to fans through live gigs, what time do you prefer most? I really love the creative atmosphere of a studio. It really gets my brain going and I love being able to express myself that way. Not saying I don't love live gigs, there is just something about a studio experience What will happen in 2012 for you, do you have any tour planned? We have a lot of really awesome things lined up. keep checking our facebook for details! facebook.com/namesakerock And when can we buy the upcoming album "Borders & Fences"? Do you have any release date yet for it? No exact release date yet, but you can look for "Borders & Fences" this summer That was it rocker, any last words for readers? Thank you for the time! Be sure to check out our single "Worlds Away" on iTunes before the album fully releases! See you all soon! |
