JANUS is launching a first new single in 6 years – a cover of THE CARS’ enormous hit Drive - in support of the destigmatizing of Bipolar Disorder. The band’s version of Drive will be released on May 2, 2019 via MUSIC FOR GOOD.
AllMusic journalist Donald A. Guarisco praised the original CARS version, “Drive, a gorgeous ballad that matched heartfelt songwriting to an alluring electronic soundscape to create one of their biggest hits. The lyrics of Drive pack a very direct emotional punch as they depict a narrator who knows a relationship with a lovely but unstable person is bad news but when the chorus rolls around he can't help but wonder ‘Who's gonna drive you home tonight?’“
David Scotney of JANUS explains the pairing of song and philanthropy “I Chose bipolar disorder awareness because it’s something my family has personal experience in dealing with and something that I was totally unprepared for in terms of knowing how to support a family member with the disease. I see this as a huge opportunity to bring light to the topic and get people talking about it. It’s a disorder that often doesn’t get diagnosed and is often mistreated. It’s already started to move the needle in terms of what I’ve hoping to accomplish with the word beginning to spread. People I share with end up sharing their own story about someone they know.”
Proceeds from the sale of the single will benefit The JED Foundation, an organization that promotes mental health and suicide prevention, to spread awareness and acceptance.
