Starbucks´ new record label, Hear Music, have announced their first signing – Sir Paul McCartney.
As previously reported, the caffeine dealers teamed up with Concord Records to form Hear Music as part of a push into the entertainment market. The label said at the time that it would "advocate creative control for artists and encourages musicians to stretch and take risks."
Despite his stature within the sphere of popular music, the former Beatle´s reputation hasn´t coincided with impressive album sales. According to Nielsen SoundScan, his 2005 album ´Chaos And Creation In The Backyard´ has only sold a little over 500,000 copies.
McCartney, speaking via satellite from London at Starbucks´ annual meeting, said he looked forward to being part of a new and innovative method of selling records in a struggling music industry.
