Does the name John Pratt ring any bells? He’s the guy that was in the AOR/Hardrock band Firefly that has released three albums Where You Gonna Run (1998), After The Fire (2000) on Escape and the last one Automatic (2003) was released by MTM Music. Now he’s here with his first solo album backed up by John Thomas, Ron Wikso, Michael Alemania from Firefly plus some other guys.
John’s solo album is very different from the sound of Firefly because this is a wonderful laid-back and soft captivating AOR/Melodic Rock album. The album is filled with splendid harmonies, first-class arrangements and very impressive orchestration. The production is fantastic and the album sounds just amazing and John deliver an outstanding vocal performance. Soundwise this reminds a lot of Steve Perry’s For The Love Of Strange Medicine mixed with John Elefante´s Defying Gravity album and with some hints of Steve Curtis Chapman in a fine package. John offers thirteen wonderful songs with a fine variation and everyone is just a joy to listen to. Highlights on the album are the opener Take Me There, Turn The Page, Forgive Me, One Silent Voice. The album ends with the seven minutes long Still Here that Journey fans will jump of joy to hear because it’s an awesome mixture of a Journey and Steve Perry ballad, brilliant song. This is one of those albums that you just sit back and relax with a glass of red wine and close your eyes and dream away.
