Albatross is a Canadian Big Wreck first album since 2001’s The Pleasure And The Greed. Over the past ten years, frontman Ian Thornley has been active in the band Thornley that was signed to Chad Kroeger's 604 Records and released two good albums.
But has been more fond of Big Wreck compared to Thornley since they had a more alternative and tougher edge, which felt more more unique and intresting. This third album then feels like a mix between Big Wreck and Thornley, with a commercial base mixed with some alternative ideas. It's not that as tough musically as I had hoped for, but the Albatross is a very, very well done album that should any fan. Really like how it just grows the more and more you listen to it. Ian Thornley singing is of course fantastic as usual, but the song material here is on top and probably the best the band has delivered since the start in 1994. Songs like "Albatross," "Control", "Rest Of The World" and "Head Together" is classy stuff and the best Ian's pen the last decade.
So if you like modern rock with one foot in the 90 century grunge like Audioslave, this is an album you cannot miss. Also check if the previously titles, but start with this one since it will be one of the best Modern Rock albums of 2012.
