Lee Small joined the legendary AORsters Shy recently and released a damn strong album last year simply called Shy. Jamaica Inn is Lee’s debut solo album and its very different from the sound of Shy. Yes, this is a pure bluesy rock album that Lee has recorded with contributions from Martin Kronlund (Gypsy Rose), Imre Daun (Don Patrol, Gypsy Rose) and Paul Bradder (Saracen). Lee has a strong voice that reminds a lot of Glenn Hughes and sound wise Jamaica Inn reminds of Mr. Hughes latest albums. It’s hard to pick out standout tracks because there are not any weak songs, but neither any songs that stands out. But my favorite is the beautiful Shine A Light that’s a lovely bluesy ballad that reminds of Thunder where Lee sings outstanding. It’s his vocal performance that stands out most on this album. So fans of AOR or melodic hardrock can avoid this album, but if are you into more bluesy tingled rock then check out Lee Small´s album, it’s filled with quality blues.
