Fire on Dawson is an Indo/German rock band from Karlsruhe, Germany, formed in 2006.
They have released two full length studio albums, their debut album "Prognative" in 2010 that was a big success and quickly climbed the Myspace progressive rock charts in Germany, peaking at number 2 in the second week after its release. "Prognative" also debuted at number 1 in the Indian rock charts on Myspace.
And their second album called “7 Billion and a Nameless Somebody” that was released on 31st July, 2012 after 2 years of ideas and 9 months of hard work, according to the band. The new album was recorded and mixed in the band's own studio in Germany and then sent to Hollywood, USA to be mastered by multiple award winning sound engineer Stephen Marsh (Incubus, Korn, The Hangover).
To place this band in one genre is not that easy because What we get here is unique alternative/progressive rock sound and you can clearly hear that the music have influences from the different cultural and musical background the band members have brought along with them. And if I should compare them with any other bands I would say that we can find influences from Pearl Jam, Porcupine Tree, A Perfect Circle and Pink Floyd here.
In my opinion this is a fresh and awesome album and all the ten songs on the album presents a big variation and holds very high quality. The singer Ankur Batra has a great voice and can sing with both harsh vocals to soulful vocals and fits perfectly as the lead singer in this band.
And when he´s not singing, the rest of the band show their skills through both solo tracks but also through perfect collaboration on every track on this great album.
This is a solid band with good musicians, they can all play their instruments very skilfully and they all hold a very high level of quality on the entire album. Another important aspect of Fire on Dawson’s music is the lyrics which are usually centered around various social, political and topical themes and worth checking out because they give so much more deep and meaning to the songs.
This is a album you need to listen to a couple of times, in my opinion, but I can promise you that it is worth the effort because this is a really awesome album !
Songs I think you should check out are the great opening track "We Are All Vain", the cool track "The Code", the powerful "God of the Lost" and of course "The Synthetic Part I and Part 2" that really shows what this band can deliver, as the great musicians they truly are!
So if you want to listen to some awesome and fresh progressive/ alternative rock from Germany then check out this album !
