The idea of Lifehouse's new album was to go back to the drawing board and try something new. And you can hear since at once on the opening track "Gotta Be Tonight" where the band has moved towards a pompous folk rock sound similar to Needtobreathe. This new sound follows through the whole record that is less commercial than before with clear blues and country references.
A good idea as I think that the band got stuck something in a pop-oriented costume on their last albums. However, I think they are a bit cowardly here as they haven’t gone all in here. Can imagine that their record company wants a pair of secure single track as in "Between the Raindrops" and "Nobody Listen", where they have approach the same sound as OneRepublic and The Fray. So of course it will sound strange when you mix organic rock with over-produced pop on the same album. Almeria was a good idea, but as big Lifehouse fan, I regret to say that this is the band's weakest album to date.
