Review

The Val is a new Spanish female-fronted group that offers AOR with pop influences with a German born vocalist named Gabrielle de Val. She sings really good and has a nice voice. This album is for fans of Broke'n Blue, Alyson Avenue, Tone Norum and little Heart influences. The album starts really well with A Kiss In A Dragon Night with lovely melodies and a strong chorus reminiscent of Heart. Best song is the amazing Pay (For The Lonely Nights) with dut-dut keyboards in the chorus. Johnny's Got A Red Car is a strong smoker with nice riffs and keyboards. Piano ballad Hold On is a nice song with strong melodies. There are not many dull moments on the album, but they may have too many mid-tempo songs in my opinion and that´s the only thing I have to complain about. If you are into female fronted pop / AOR then you should check out this album. A pleasant surprise.

Did you know that?

U2’s 1997 music video for “Last Night on Earth” was counterculture icon William S. Burroughs’ final on-camera appearance.
