Review

I’ve been sitting on this CD-R by MAGIC DANCE for a while, but finally here’s a few lines about it. It’s a project by JON SIEJKA who handles vocals and most of the instrumentation. Stylewise we’re looking at soft AOR somewhere in the WORK OF ART division, although more straight forward and not as westcoast oriented in its arrangements.

The sound is rather smashing, but also somewhat rather typically pressurized and a bit non-dynamic in a way that has become so popular so far in the 2000’s. It feels a bit sterile, but I’ve heard a lot worse so it’s fully OK. If you like modern AOR this will absolutely be your cup of tea. One more small critizism: it seems Siejka is using the same song idea in several songs; hear the opener “Another lost boy”, “When we were young” and then “Love was not enough”… all of them includes kind of the same riffs and chords. That aside, this is really good stuff. It needs a lot more variation, so with more work during the next album this can really be something!

Did you know that?

KISS drummer Eric Carr died on the same day as Freddie Mercury from Queen.
