Review

Tom Chaplin is none other than the front man behind the incredibly successful band Keane. They have through their four studio albums sold over ten million albums in the 2000s which is very impressive numbers of course. However, they have had some difficulties to live up to the huge success of her debut Hopes and Fears and unfortunately have to say that their popularity have decreased after each album. And not surprisingly, the band split up indefinitely 2013 when the band members chose to pursue their own projects.
And this solo debut has not been an easy ride as Chaplin began using drugs due to anxiety over it. Can understand him to a certain extent since there are huge expectations on him and can guess that he wants to return to the top of the world where he spend most of his time ten years ago.
Do, however, think The Wave won’t be a great success for him even though it has obvious qualities. It sounds very good and contains some very stylish pop gems like "Still Waiting", "Hardened Heart" and "Quicksand" that all are of high Keane class. However, as there is no tunes with the little extras that can be seen as hit singles that also is required for his career to take off again.
But if you’re into elegant and grand pop / rock, The Wave is definitely worth picking with it’s solid and competent material.
