The Italians in Secret Sphere are truly becoming veterans in the powermetal genre after 20 years of activity and 9 studio albums, this summer they unleash their latest work "The nature of time" that is the follow-up to last year´s live album "One night in Tokyo" and expectations were high.
I really wanted to enjoy this album just as much as "Portrait of a dying heart" from 2012 which is a great album but the lack of memorable songs leaves me all empty inside.
The new album is a bit overambitious, I get the feeling guitarist Aldo Lonobile and Co tried to create their own "Operation Mindcrime" and didn´t reach the finish line.
There´s nothing wrong with the performance and the production that both are quite good, I just miss their strength in the songwriting part.
I do like the songs "Honesty", "Reliance" and "Commitment", these are moments when the band show their strength in interesting instrumentation and powerful melodies. I just with the entire album was this good.
Listening to "The nature of time" is like ordering a cappucino with an extra shot of espresso and instead you get ordinary coffee with milk in it.
