Review

Swiss rockers Gotthard are back with a splendid new album. Their last one "Homerun" was their
strongest album in my opinion but "Human Zoo" is a step forward to the land of commercial soft
melodic rock that flirts with AOR.
On this new album they deliver the strongest rockers and ballads that Gotthard has ever written.
Chris von Rohr has been the main producer of Gotthard albums but on this new album they have
hired Marc Tanner(Nelson, The Calling) to produced it. I think that Mr. Tanner is one of the main
reasons that Gotthard sounds so great on "Human Zoo". The sound is crystal clear like it has always
been on the previous album but Marc Tanners input in the songwriting has give the Gotthard a new
approach. He has put in more strings on the album that takes this album to higher grounds.
Like on "Homerun" Gotthard sounds very much like Bon Jovi but with more attitude and a more rockier
Nelson in my mind. Other acts that comes in mind is Demon Drive, Firehouse and Alfonzetti to mention few.
I could pick out almost every song of the album because I think everyone has something to offer.
Highlights of the album is the brilliant rocker "Top Of The World", "What I Like" awesome mid-tempo
rocker with one of the strongest choruses that Gotthard has ever done.
The pianoballad "Have A Little Faith" would have made Bon Jovi proud and Michael Landau playing guitar
on it and only that makes this song worth to pay attention to.
"One In A Million" is a like Nelson turning on the heat.
The country flirting "Janie?s Not Alone" show a new side of Gotthard, this mid-tempo song has a chorus
with superb background vocals and a laid-back sound over it. Fantastic stuff.
"Still I Belong To You" is a huge rockballad that should take Gotthard to a bigger audience.
This new album from Gotthard is fantastic and they give us what they do best and that is mixing highclass
rockers with heartbreaking ballads.
Steve Lee sings better that ever and that might be Marc Tanner that has pushed Steve to give the best he got,
because he sounds amazing.
So every Gotthard fan should have a copy of this new album and this would also interest other melodic rock
fans to check out this brilliant album.
