There was once a band called Hurricane Party from England, they only released one EP called "Get this" in 2004. Guitarist Jonny Rocker and bassist Rob Randall moved on and formed Roadstar together with drummer Chris Rivers and guitarist Sid Glover. They did two albums, "Grand hotel" (2006) and "Glass mountain" (2007) before they disbanded. Out of the ashes of Roadstar came Heaven´s Basement with a line-up that included Chris Rivers, Jonny Rocker, Sid Glover, bassist Rob Ellershaw and singer Aaron Buchanan.
Heaven´s Basement released the full length "Filthy empire" in 2013 and 4 years later I am wondering whatever happened to the guys in that band. Well, Sid Glover and Rob Ellershaw has a new band called The Cruel Knives that are working on their debut EP and lead singer Aaron Buchanan recently released a new album with his new band The Cult Classics.
That´s where we are right now, I have listened to "The man with stars on his knees" the entire week and I´m thrilled over the musical experience Aaron Buchanan and producer James Curtis-Thomas have created.
This album is a set of songs written by Aaron while he was in Heaven´s Basement that didn´t follow the classic hard rock sound of his former band, well "The man with stars on his knees" is a rock album no doubt but more like a modern rock version of Queen with traces of 90´s grunge.
Imagine if Butch Walker had an O.D of Freddie Mercury while he was writing a tribute to Chris Cornell, you´ll get Aaron Buchanan and The Cult Classics. There aren´t that many new releases that sounds like this record, that´s for sure.
