Gizmodrome is probably the most unexpected band to arrive in 2017, an all-star-band featuring some fantastic musicians like Stewart Copeland (The Police), Adrian Belew (King Crimson, Talking Heads), Mark King (Level 42) and Vittorio Cosma (PFM).
This is one of those albums that don´t belong in any specific genre, the music on their self-titled album is very artistic and a major crossover of wild rock and crazy fusion-like prog. Think Talking Heads meets Frank Zappa and we´re close to the sound of Gizmodrome.
These guys met and had fun for a couple of weeks in a studio, you know the old school way when bands actually played and jammed at the same time in a recording room instead of sending files to eachother in different countries.
I find it very amusing to know that Copeland, Belew, King and Cosma couldn´t care less if their songs will be played on radio where mainstream pop is king, because Gizmodrome is all about quality over quantity.
I love this album a lot and put a big smile on my face when I hear songs like "Stay ready" that bring thoughts to Toy Matineé, not to mention the instrumental endeavour of "Stark naked". I haven´t heard such cool jazz-punk since Nina Hagen´s backing band Spliff. BUY!
