Hairmetal, glamrock, AOR, 80´s hard rock – ohyeah, the American band Autograph truly fit in under all these genres and now they´re back with a new line-up and a new album.
You might remember their hits from 3 decades ago like ”Blondes in black cars” and ”Turn up the radio”, and indeed the new album ”Get off your ass” features a live version of ”Turn up the radio” along with the 4 tracks from their 2016 EP ”Louder” and 5 brand new tracks.
When Autograph reunited a few years ago, their original frontman Steve Plunkett wasn´t interested so they brought in Simon Daniels as their new singer.
What feels kinda strange is that ”Get off your ass” is the first full length since ”Loud and clear” (1987) to include guitarist Steve Lynch and bassist Randy Rand, Autograph did release an album in 2003 called ”Buzz” but it was the Steve Plunkett version that didn´t include Lynch or Rand.
This time around, the band delivers a keyboard-free album but still with the typical Autograph sound of party-like rock in the same vein as Black´n´Blue and Warrant.
I like this album even if I´m not as excited as I was when they dropped their albums in the 80´s, ”Get off your ass” is a nice comeback that feels much welcome.
