Artist discography

The highly intisapated 3rd record from The Midnight has arrived!

'Shadows' begins the album with a magical like aura. I like how The Midnight used the foot steps effect as a way to build things up. I couldn't help but picture myself as a lone wolf roaming the sidewalks at midnight confronted with a crisp autumn breeze. As the song opens up and carries on you kinda find yourself riding with that breeze as it wraps itself around buildings in the heart of a big city.

'Crystalline' is a bag of mixed feelings. I didn't really get into it like much of the others. I felt it lacked a little excitement but I get what the artist was going for. I'd like to think this song represents a person in our lives that we care for.

'Collateral' started off bland but as it progressed it grew on me a tad. I like how the synth and saxophone is later met with an electric guitar. I felt the guitar added a certain electricity in the air and took things up a whole level better. I thought it was a good example of ones feelings building up over time for somebody and when your around them you just feel amazing.

'River Of Darkness' is a cool collaboration with another well known artist of the retrowave scene,Timecop1983. The song gives off a dark, mysterious and adventurous feeling of that regarding the unknown. It captures the emotions of having second thoughts along with some doubts put into your head by others as to how things will be between you and the one you care about.

'Nocturnal' was honestly a song I didn't care much for but it wasn't bad.

'Lights Years' is my favorite slow jam off Nocturnal. I think it paints a very sad yet beautiful story of how two people have feelings for each other and are struggling to cope with the fact in the end things won't probably last for the long haul. Its a case of I want to make you mine but I know one of us if perhaps the both of us will end up hurting the other. The picture painted is like that of the classic battle of the heart verses the brain which results in somebody distancing themselves from the other. I love how there is two leads on this song, the woman and man to represent how nobody will escape untouched by the heartbreak. I felt 'Light Years' really brought the feelings alive before the listeners ears and should have been the name of the album.

'Tokyo Night Train' closes the album off with a very refreshing and friendly Tokyo night life inspired vibe. I believe the artist was going for a point of reflection here on behalf of the woman and man as they sit on a night train watching neon lights pass by. Will they remain friends? Who knows. Its up to the listener to write the rest of the story.

Overall I really enjoyed Nocturnal. I love how the artist used their craft to tell a story of love and heartbreak that came about between two friends. I look forward to what the future may hold for The Midnight.
