Review

Canadian rock band Renegade has released a brand new 6-track EP. In 2001 they released an album called Back From The Dead and 2004 an album called On The Edge. These two albums was filled with great keyboard dominated pure 80s AOR with nice hooks and melodies. These songs were mainly written between 87-89 and sounded very close to Haywire, Boulevard, Glasstiger and some touches of Loverboy. 3 memebers also were involved in another band called Matrex and their I´ll Always Remember that was released in 2005 and sounded very close to Renegade. Now over 10 years later the boys are back with a more laid-back pop/Midwest rock album but you still can hear their early influences in the harmonies and melodies. Singer Marty Sippola is back and he sounds damn strong and gives the songs an extra push. If Wasn´t Meant To Be is a nice acoustic pop song with great melodies and flirts with country with some slide guitars. Don´t Want To Think About It Anymore is a wonderful mid-tempo song that reminds of Loverboy meets Glasstiger. Marty reminds very much of Glasstiger´s Alan Frew. The ballad The Story Of My Life could have been on some of the latest FM albums for sure, great tune.  Soundwise this new album is far away from the 2 other albums but if your into band such The Outfields, FM, Glasstiger, Boulevard (new album), The Rembrandts and some hints of Loverboy in the harmonies. The production of the album is just perfect, great sound. A very nice comeback album.
