Review

Care for another nice and quite hard-to-find Swedish in the soft AOR genre? Here’s FACE IT which was a Christian female fronted band in the 90’s. They had two obvious strengths: a great singer in LISA BLIXT and really good musicianship.

It is quite clear that the members had listened to TOTO, MR MISTER and other bands from the 80’s, and sometimes the influences are even too close to the original. Hear the pre-verse chords in “The water will flow” and you’ll see what I mean (a lot of MR MISTER vibes!). fans of TONE NORUM will love the ballad “A wounded bird”, and I’d say Lisa sings even better than Tone, with quite a lot of CAROLA in her voice.

You get pure AOR in “The voice of prophets”, but also light funk/rock/soul vibes in “All my steps” so there is good variation on this album. Talking AOR, the semi-ballad “Rebecca” reminds me of MAGNUM (UK) in the chorus.

Even though released on one of Sweden’s biggest christian music labels in 1994 (they released the super nice KEY WEST album, for example), the production is good but they could have worked on it a bit more. It’s not a big complaint, and overall this album will be loved by many fans of (FF) AOR. Crunchy guitars, rich keyboards, good melodies and so on. It is a quite rare item, but not impossible to find at a reasonable price. Close to a four in grading! (Swedish Diamonds series, #17)
