Here’s another incredibly diverse album among those I’ve received lately. ANDREA VAN CLEEF is a male Italian musician. If I understood the bio right he’s released one EP and two albums before this, and this new CD ranges from soft ballads through DIRE STRAITS kind of rock to almost punkish and energetic rock.
If you can look upon this review not really as a review but merely a tip-off, you might find something worth checking up. “Get some sleep” belongs to a bunch of songs that I like here, with the aforementioned DIRE STRAITS vibe. The acoustic semi-ballad “Wrong side of the bed” is also nice.
The more energy filled tunes are not my cup of tea, but I admit they really have something. Andrea’s voice sometimes comes close to the great CHRIS REA, like in the soft “I passed away”. Good indeed. The punkish uptempo side of his music brings for example “I am the speed of light” – I am not saying this sounds like MOTÖRHEAD, but it certainly isn’t far from it. So there you have it, a lot of different faces to this recording.
