Melodic hard rock is a rather wide genre, I know. To classify Australian rockers PALACE OF THE KING isn’t too easy. The biography mentions AC/DC, POISON and early GUNS ‘N ROSES for the song “It’s been a long time coming”, and this matches a few songs on this cool album. But there’s more to it.
“Sold me down the river” makes me think of AEROSMITH. This song also underlines one ingredient that you don’t get a lot of on AC/DC or POISON’s albums: nice harmony vocals. The overall feeling as for the sound picture is late 70’s or something like that, and I like the energy and punches in the guitars and the teamwork by these guys. They really sound like a BAND and they really know what they’re doing!
Back to the comparisons from early on. I’d say that POISON is a bit more sleazy than PALACE OF THE KING, and the latter are absolutely better musicians. Otherwise, if you imagine a mix of all bands mentioned you get pretty close. This is good!
