Review

PLUSGRADER (which means “degrees above zero”, when talking about Celsius degrees) is a very cool melodic rock/pop band from Norrköping, Sweden. There are a bunch of recordings released by this band and I hereby start by writing about their first CD single from 1998.

If you’re in a hurry and need a short version of what this band sounds like, it goes: Like KENT but with a cleaner sound and one foot in the AOR genre. There are two songs only on this single; “När allting faller sönder” (When everything falls apart) and “Här är värmen” (Here’s the warmth”).

One clear difference between KENT and PLUSGRADER is also that you can actually hear whan vocalist and keyboard player DANIEL FORSBERG is singing! No offense meant to Jocke Berg of KENT, but there are many Kent songs where I’ve been trying to decode his lyrics when listening… No such thing with PLUSGRADER and the band is really good too. This is like AOR in a pop/rock mode, with a subtle melancholic touch and also an aggressive vibe when they feel like it. The title track is excellent, with a rather soft verse which builds up to a rocking chorus. Nice arrangements as well, and the second tune is a bit more rock oriented.

You can find other material by PLUSGRADER at Spotify, and I warmly recommend you listen it through. This is a very good band. Thy have good lyrics as well, which will probably be appreciated by Swedish listeners.
