Review

I´m always happy to see a new release from my childhood hero Ace Frehley and the brand new album "Spaceman" also features special guest Gene Simmons on bass and credited as co-writer on the opening track "Without you I´m nothing". As a Kiss fan, I´m excited but the excitement somehow gets lost in the shuffle because even if "Spaceman" sounds like a typical Frehley record, it doesn´t reach up to his normal standards. Songs like "Rockin´ with the boys" and "Bronx boy" would do justice on an old Kiss album and the instrumental "Quantum flux" is another fine highlight and a continuation of his "Fractured" pieces. The Simmons co-writes "Your wish is my command" and "Without you I`m nothing" are only ok and something is not right when the best song is a cover, this time around a great version of Eddie Money´s "I wanna go back". Mr Ace Frehley needs to be more selective with the songs he picks from his own compositions because he can do better.
