Trying to keep track of all the music in the world is of course a totally impossible task. But I can say I blamed myself when I realized I had missed out on new music from THE MOTELS, since I thought they had called it a day after the “Shock” album in 1985…
The band today consists of: MARTHA DAVIS, NICK JOHNS, ERIC GARDNER, CLINT WALSH and MARTY JOURARD.
They prove to be able to deliver really good albums even today! It starts out with the nice song “Punchline” with a somewhat melancholic sound but also cool keyboard arrangements in th midst of the song.
A marvellous proof of how much is kept from the classic sound and style of THE MOTELS can be heard in the tune “Tipping point”, with its lovely beat. There’s still something very special and lovely about Martha’s voice. It’s a daring voice with charisma that catches you!
“Lucky stars” is a wonderful song with quite a warm pop/AOR:ish touch, and some cool arrangements.
The hardest thing is probably to label the music. Some pop fans will probably say this is too much rock to be called pop, and vice versa. No matter what, this is great music with hooks, feeling, choruses and warmth. Sometimes a bit suggestive too. I love it.
