Twin brothers Arnaut and Sander Brink are back with a new Tangarine album entitled Because Of You.
While one of them became a father the other went thru a divorce.
These private issues can be seen in the artwork of this magnificent album.
After recording their last album in Tucson USA they went back to that very same place to record a masterpiece. This time they added a more psychedelic sound compared to the previous album.
Here and there you hear a sound that gives a Pink Floyd kind of atmosphere, although lighter.
The lightness of their voices to me is the only thing that should be changed here and there maybe. This way you get an album which rolls along like a small creek. what we as listeners need is a bit of a wilder river here and there. So my advice, try to use some more power to te vocals for a change like already was done intrumental.
Musically though these guys give us top notch quality. The use of many different instruments is a real party for those that appreciate pure quality.
The lyrics on this album are like somekind of duel between songs. which off course lies in the fact of the different states of mind between Arnaut and Sander. From dark and melancholic to happy and thankfull.
The album opener Lemonade Sky gives us a bautifull guitar and lyrics to think about. Aren't we all dreamers like this?
This nice opener is followed up by Cracks, a fantastic song which as a superb 70's Floydian feel to it.
Track 3 makes me think of the Eagles with Hotel California. not that it sounds like them but i remember that song as a song that sounds uplifting untill you start to listen closely to the lyrics which are in fact dark. Nobody Wants To Be the One is like that. Very nice Mexican trumpets. A real highlight on this album and also very different compared to the other songs.
Ribbons is an easy listening southern song, very Tucson
Echoes is another one of the highlights here, an amazing song with smart compositions.
Cold Hearted Road is not very exiting regarding rythm. but Can't Let You go is a winner, Love those guitars.
Because Of You has everything what these guys are capable off. such a beauty. listen to how they build this composition, the right choice to be the titlesong.
To round things up this album could be an international breakthru if radiostations are willing to pick it up between todays music. An album which gives the Brink change a change in style, less folk, more 60's/70's (easy listening) rock. A welcome change which also once again proves that changes in an artists personal life is often followed by a very creative album.
For fans of Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Simon and Garfunkel, The Everly Brothers.
