Review

Here’s another one of all those hard-to-find MCD:s… SOULVATION was a Swedish band in the mid-90’s with high quality musicians that really could have made it big. They were a seven-piece including trumpet and sax, which always makes such a difference.

This mini-album contains six tracks of soul, funk and pop mixed with some westcoast vibes. I tell you, it is absolutely worth the effort in finding this lovely item. They are like a mix of EDIN/ÅDAHL and BILL LaBOUNTY.

Take the soft “Fishes” for example, also with lots of MICHAEL RUFF’s 90’s vibes. “Umbrella” is quite westcoast oriented, with some OLE BÖRUD in it. More soul/funk is found in “Try” and the opener “Life”. And these guys really know how to arrange music for westcoast/soul fans! It is so clear that the guys are skilled musicians.

The CD has a very nice production for being a self-made recording. The lead vocalist MAGNUS FUNEMYR is a bit above average, with a suitable voice for this type of music. This CD is really a recommendation!

Otherwise I’d like to mention fellow Swedes BROMSTENS KAPELL (to be reviewed here later) and SYKARS BRUNN – two rather unknown bands that you will also like within the same genre. (Swedish Diamonds series #28)
