Review

Well, I’ll say only progressive rock bands use album titles like this one! Swedish band CREA has been around since 1988, would you believe it! They have released tons of various stuff and here’s their latest effort.

Stylewise we find traces of early MARILLION, but also other British progressive acts in for example the neo-progressive field. I like that they have chosen an older sound which sounds cozy and real. Another thing I am truly impressed by is the guitar player PETER GREN who delivers some great playing - for example in the instrumental opener “The march of the penguins”. It is also Gren’s guitar sound, together with the overall song styles, that make me think so much of early Marillion.

The MARILLION vibes are heard in for example “Some of us”. I am not saying the songs are entirely sounding like Marillion, but there are passages with the same type of melancholicness and even the lead voices aren’t too far from what the British giants sounded like when FISH was in the band. The guys also know how to go from a soft part to a rather heavy and pulsating part – like in the cool tune “Walk in to bright lights”.

There are not too many progressive rock bands left sounding like this. I applaud it! The 4 in grading might be a little too generous, but it’s not possible to make it 3.75!
