Review

Here’s a very cool band who only released this one-off 4 track CD single. SAFE & SOUND was a 6-piece centred around vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter DANIEL FORSBERG. Does it ring a bell? If you have read  previous Swedish Diamonds Series’ reviews, then you know that his band PLUSGRADER was formed shortly after this.

The way this very nice single begins, it brings a lot of ROXETTE vibes. This goes both for the style in the opener “Leaving myself (without me)” as well as the fact that there two girls singing background vocals: MARIA JOHNSON and SARA BOKVIST – the latter also one of two guitar players in the band.

One difference to the ROXETTE sound is that the guitars are more dominant here, even though keys are nicely mixed and play a good part too. Take “Always same routines” for example, with a nice beat and distinct guitars. This also makes the songs a little more AOR oriented, but in a more obvious pop/rock overcoat.

SAFE & SOUND has good harmony vocals and the arrangements are way above average. I am guessing we can consider this a DIY product, and with that in mind this is very, very good. (Swedish Diamonds Series, #32)
