Review

One of many bands from the Stockholm region in Sweden was PILLOWTALK. They were a 4-piece with STEPHAN SAMUELSSON (lead vocals), ROBERT BARREFELT (guitar), MATTIAS CEDERSTAM (bass) and OLLE LINDERDAHL (drums). Along with main producer LARS NORGREN they have created a very solid production for being an indie like this.

The biography mentions influences of RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and JAMIROQUAI, and I think that’s a perfect way of describing the songs. This is too soft for being immediately compared to the PEPPERS, and at the same time too rock tinged (at times) to be very close to JAMIROQUAI.

In track three “Lost dream”, the softer parts even remind me a bit of SADE, thanks to the souly arrangement. The slight funk and soul in “White diamond” also speaks to me, and there are other songs in the same style. It’s a bit melancholic, mixed with soul, rock and pop. Eight songs in total, and a good album to add to your collection of you like what you read above. (Swedish Diamonds Series, #33)
