Review

Take 70% of DREAM THEATER of the early 90’s and add 15% each of ULTRAVOX and BWO, and you have Swedish duo PREHISTORIC ANIMALS. So, this is a CD to place in the progressive hard rock/metal category, and still is has some other spices as well.

They are based around the duo SAMUEL GRANATH (drums, keys) and STEFAN ALTZAR (guitar, bass, vocals), both from POUND. Since early 2019 the band also consists of: JAKOB GRANATH (keys), STEFAN JERNSTÅHL (keys), PETER HOLMSTEDT (bass) and DANIEL MAGDIC (guitar).

The song “never thought I was a monster” is one of several good examples of this interesting cross of music styles. Sure, the melodic hard rock & progressive metal is dominating, but it makes a cool change when softer and more synth base parts appear in the songs. To me, being the dinosaur that I am, the production is a bit too modern and would need more space (maybe also less loops), but apart from this there's nothing to complain about. Very good stuff. Get it!
