Review

GYPSY ROSE released the album ”Gypsy Rose” in 2005, on Escape in Europe and Avalon in Japan. Back then, it was an awaited album by a band that had been formed already in 1981 and then disbanded in 1993…

Time passed and Scandirock Records are now re-releasing this CD in a remastered version with the additional track “Solitude”. There is also new artwork.

Stylewise this ranges from rather pure AOR with a hard rock base, to sleaze tinged hard rock. AOR fans should check up the fine “Promise to stay” as well as the semi-ballad “Moonlight”. A few songs, like “You are the one” and “Fender ‘59”, sound quite a lot like a slightly more edgy SCORPIONS, partly because the lead vocals of HÅKAN GUSTAFSSON has got quite a lot of KLAUS MEINE (SCORPIONS) over it. And the bonus track “Solitude” is actually among the best songs!

I’d say there is more hard rock than AOR, but no matter the style it is classy stuff. Well worth getting now if you didn’t take the chance with the first release. There is also the second album “Another world” (Escape, 2008) for you to check out if you fancy more.
