Review

After a long hiatus, Swedish melodic hard rockers XT returned in 2016 with a new album (Saved by the blood, Talking Music). This 2019 album, however, is a bunch of re-recordings of old songs from the early albums. The line-up these days includes SONNY LARSSON (lead vocals), BJÖRN STIGSSON (guitars, keyboards, Taurus pedals, backing vocals), DAN TIBELL (keyboards, Hammond), PETER CARLSOHN (bass) and THOMAS WEINESJÖ (drums). Skilled guys all of them!

So the word ”revived” in the title refers to the fact that the songs are re-recorded. Twelve tracks have been included on this album and fittingly enough it starts with something from the very first 1992 album by XT: ”The rock in my life”. XT have created a rich sound heavily influenced by the late 70’s and the early 80’s. Lots of DEEP PURPLE in some songs, no doubt.

Another thing is also quite clear: Larsson’s singing gives us everything from really poor to magic. There are moments when his high-pitched performance is pure gold, while in other moments the notes are not hit right…

But there are some really good tunes to be found! ”On the run” with its cool arrangement is one, as is also the final song ”One way to Heaven” with a nice beat. Surpringly enough the guys deliver some rap as well, which is horrible in my book. In all, this is a decent album without euphoria.
