Tunisian band MYRATH has released four albums before this one, to my knowledge. This progressive metal band is highly interesting since they manage to mix in some of their native melodies at times, making it something of a “Tunisian neoclassical genre”. So those of you who (like me) have turned a little bored of the progressive metal genre – you should absolutely check this band out. They are more melodic than the average acts within this type of music and also blend the works with some neoclassical moves.
They also turn fairly commercial at times, like the first few minutes of “You’ve lost yourself”. Especially the chorus is truly melodic and very, very good. Still the song also has the typical twists of prog-metal. Hear the fat and heavy guitar sound when “Wicked dice” starts! Ah, great!
Another strength of MYRATH’s is their harmony vocals. Nice examples are heard in the ROYAL HUNT spiced “Mersal” but also in many other songs.
Some choruses are almost like heavy AOR, judging from the melodies and chords. But the production is or course heavier and suits the genre well. As musicians the guys are really good too; or good enough as one might put it.
It’s hard to compare MYRATH with other bands. Some moments are like a mix of VANDEN PLAS and RING OF FIRE. But that’s not the general feeling of this classy album.
