Review

Time for some in-your-face melodic hard rock. PRETTY WILD is a Swedish classy act with a slight sleaze vibe at times, too. All band members except one have artist names as well, just the way it should be! AXL LUDWIG (guitars), KIM CHEVELLE (bass) and JOHNNY BENSON (drums) are backing IVAN “IVVE” HÖGLUND by the microphone. This is their third album.

These guys know what they’re doing, even though I wouldn’t accuse them of being original in any sense. On the other hand, spiteful colleagues through the years have said similar things about many AOR bands that I love and adore…

Ivan is a perfect singer for this type of music. Fairly high-pitched but still with the solidness and stamina that’s needed. If I’d take a short-cut to describe PRETTY WILD, it would be: a large potion of BON JOVI with spices of RATT. They know when to let the guitars be biting, but also when to add that extra melodic sense to the arrangements.

One strength is the harmony vocals. Hear for example the semi-ballad “Wild and free” which is lifted by the quality vocals in the chorus! My own fave songs are “Give it all tonight” and “The way I am” but you’ll all be able to find tracks you favour. Maybe the intense rocker “Stand my ground”? Good stuff.
