Man, it is a slight mystery that this album has not come to my attention until early July, as it was released in March 2019… Anyway, I hereby give a warm welcome back to DAVE BICKLER! Yes, the original SURVIVOR voice. The one that you hear every day on sports events all over the world, as the ever winning chords of “Eye of the tiger” burst out of the speakers. I never get tired of that song, to be honest.
Here he is with a solo album that brings us true melodic hard rock, a bit more rough-edged than Survivor but with the same class. Well arranged and with good variation, too. And most of the nice voice is still there!
Some slight r’n’b has flavoured the first song, “Hope”, which is a mid-tempo tune. One of my fave tracks is “Always you” with a BRETT WALKER:ish attitude; good AOR/rock. On the other hand, the rather boring and too rough-edged “Time” is a song that shouldn’t have made the cut.
This is a good album, absolutely “approved” if there would be such a label. Though, I am kind of waiting for choruses that grab you, and such choruses are not included. As a background album while working it is fine, but when you really listen to the music it takes more for a higher grading.
