Review

ALEX CROWN may be a new name to us, but there’s a more well-known name behind this new monicker. This is, you see, ALEXANDER KRONBRINK (SONIC STATION) with new material of his own. What he’s offering so far is a digital EP with three songs, of which two are instrumental lightweight fusion tunes and one is a new version of a previous Sonic Station semi-ballad with vocals.

It begins with “A night in the 80’s” followed by “Summer by the sea”. These are the instrumental tracks and they are top notch music in the vein of LEE RITENOUR meets THE RIPPINGTONS. The solo playing by Alex is mainly done on classical guitar here, and the way he plays will attract a lot of fans of great musicianship and melodies.

The final song is “Give me all you’ve got”, previously called “Love’s gonna show the way” when SONIC STATION performed it. This is a new version of this westcoast pop tune, with OSKAR NILSSON on very good lead vocals. Strong stuff! All songs have a very good production and sound, with flirts both to the old times and "today".

There are truly great musicians involved here. JONATHAN FRITZÉN (piano, Rhodes, keyboards), JONATHAN LUNDBERG (drums), HENRIK LINDER (bass; known from DIRTY LOOPS) and ANDREAS EKSTEDT (percussion) are some of the ones that Alex has taken under his wings for the job. This is really good, and perfect to listen to right now as it is summer and hot.
