Yes, I’ll admit it: I stopped following ENUFF Z’NUFF’s albums quite long ago, since it wasn’t really my cup of tea. But now that their leading member DONNIE VIE released this solo album in June 2019, it made me thinking I might need to give the band another chance. At least if they went in the musical direction of this album.
What we get from this talented man is melodic rock with tiny touches of AOR, but in a cool way reminding me of MARK SPIRO’s album “Care of my soul” and the first album of VENICE. Let’s say it’s 15% of THE BEATLES too, and you get the picture. This is melodic rock for the summer, and darn good too.
A song like ”I’ll surrender” for example would have been perfect for ROY ORBISON in his late career. Awesome melodic rock with great melodies, and you can’t stand still to this. The Beatles tendencies get more dominating in “Whatever” which is another goodie, although almost too much chewing gum pop:ish.
Guesting on the album are PAUL GILBERT (MR BIG), ROGER MANNING (JELLYFISH), MATT WALKER (GARBAGE, MORRISSEY), MIKE LePOND (SYMPHONY X) and others as well.
Anything on the downside then? Well, the total playing time is quite short. Only like 35 and a half minute. But better getting ten good songs than 15 of which 5 are fillers…Available on both CD and vinyl.
