Review

Although scaled down to three members, UNRULY CHILD (USA) is still a leading force in the AOR and melodic hard rock business. The trio is MARCIE MICHELLE FREE (lead vocals), BRUCY GOWDY (guitars) and GUY ALLISON (keyboards).

Right away in the first song “Someone else’s dream” they show who’s the boss. Prime time UR music with an AOR base, but still with some hard rock elements. Same goes for “Will we give up today” which is one of the strongest tunes.

In “Beneath a steady rain” UNRULY CHILD dares to explore the music world more than usually, since this softie includes some jazz and westcoast in the arrangements. It is an unexpected but really good song!

FREE is still a great singer and this band always brings us flawless arrangements, catchy choruses and superb backing vocals. There are a number of really good heavy AOR tunes, and the rest of the songs are also quality stuff, some heavier and some soft. This is up there in GIANT’s and SEVENTH KEY’s division when it comes to style, and almost equally good.

As for who’s playing drums and bass, I have yet to find out. I’ll keep you posted! And hey – I’ve seen some reviews with lots of complaints about this album. But you must give this album some chances. It is more mature in some ways, than previous efforts, but contains a lot of cool twists.
