Review

At first I thought this album title referred to pools or so, but then I realized it is just another way of writing the word “hatred”. And the opening track is actually “Hatred”, with regular spelling. I am talking about the new album by MYSTERY BLUE, a band name that sounds more like soft AOR than the melodic metal they are actually performing.

The opening track shows right away that there are some early QUEENSRYCHE vibes here. And that includes the great lead vocalist NATHALIE GEYER, who reminds a bit of how GEOFF TATE used to sing.

“Beast within” ius a perfect example of how this band sounds. It is like JUDAS PRIEST of the 90’s and 2000’s, with some QUEENSRYCHE spices. “Killing innocent” is another strong tune, like a mix of melodic hard rock and melodic metal. A little more straight-forward for being this band. Sometime I think of Swedish band MASQUERADE’s second album “Surface of pain” when listening to this album. And that is not bad!

The finishing song “Introspection” is one of few softer moments, and it is a bit needed after many intense and heavy songs. The band has produced the album themselves with the honor.
