Matthew Mayfield's latest album is a good one. That could be the end of the review, but that would not say that much about the album itself, would it?
For many of you, Mayfield is not an unknown artist. He has been around since 2008 and has released a number of EPs and albums.
On Gun Shy, Mayfield has managed to blend together a few different sounds. from the rocking title track to the closing Simple, we are treated to a nice selection of songs. For those of you who have been following Mayfield since his Moses Mayfield days, you might be pleased to find out that he as brought back two of those songs. Keep My Distance and Fall Behind have both been updated with a fresh sound, without losing what made them good songs back in the day.
In a fair world, this would be the album that brings Mayfield into the big leauges. He has it all basically; the songs, the lyrics, and that voice! He has that kind of rawness and grit to his voices that really brings the listerner in.
It's hard to pick favorite tracks, this is a solid album. Do yourself a favour and check it out. Mayfield is worth it - and so are you!
