It took Jimmy Eat World 3 years to release a new album with Futures in 2004,now the guys in JEW are generous and gives the fans a new 5 track EP only a year after the last album. "Stay on my side tonight" contains 3 brand new songs,a cover of the indie rock band Heatmiser that was active between 92-96 and a re-mix of "Drugs or me" (original version featured on Futures). These songs are no uptempo tracks but they are no slow songs either, the new ones oftens start in a soft way but then grows to arena rockers halfway through the song. The opening track "Disintegration" is 7 minute long and also the highlight of the EP,quite a new sound for JEW where the atmospheric rock of Coldplay meets Peter Gabriel?s rhythms and the ending is superb - I think of the song like having sex,it starts with foreplay to continue with heavenly intercourse and then explode into a climax of orgasms. The next song is a midtempo song called "Over" that breathes Travis mixed with Better than Ezra, cool tune. 3rd track "Closer" has no real chorus,it just goes on in a nice mood the first 3 minutes to get more rocking for a minute and then slow down in the 5th minute at the end of the song - a grower indeed. "Half right" is a cover of a song I have never heard nor the band,Heatmiser was a 90?s indie rock band most famous for launching the singer/songwriter Elliot Smith. Ok alternative rock no more no less. The only possible radio contender on the EP must be the re-mix of "Drugs or me",this is a real different version for all that has "Futures" in their collection. Like velvet for the ears, truly enjoyable! Not a classic EP but real good.
