Review

Do you think vocal-based powerpop a la Jellyfish with more guitardriven rock such as The Tories and Marvelous 3 sounds like your cup of tea, then you should put out an invitation to a huge tea party because L.A band Checkpoint Charley has the cookies.
How could anyone resist the City Boy smelling "Cardiac arrest" or the beachparty rocker "Bellyfish" and what about the opening track "Free" that should´ve been the anthem to all American Pie soundtracks......the list of good songs never ends, well ok there´s only 12 so I lied a bit.
But you can play them over and over again without getting tired of hearing them, listen to the Jellyfish harmonies on "Smile" or the bombastic 70´s rock a la Elton John and Queen on "Mother Veronica" - melodic heaven!
A must for any melodic rock fan!

4 stars

Holy moses folks, What else is there to say about this band! Imagine yourself a mix between Queen, the Jellyfish-sphere, Spymob, Bleu, Robby Valentine, the tougher side of Ben Folds, Horizontal Ladies Club and The Tories and you have Checkpoint Charley. Yeah I´m not kidding. It´s boombastic like hell with vocal harmonies all over and the production is damn impressive. And they´ve produced it all by themselves. I´m actually kinda speechless. Where has this band been hiding all these years? Anyone ever heard of them? No I didn´t think so. You will do that though because you gotta buy yourself a copy at once.

Go to CDBABY and purchase a copy. One of this years biggest surprise. And these kicks are why I´m always out there searching for new unknown music which seldom is this good. I´m in love and a half star more is close!
