Review

AVERAGE WHITE BAND needs no intrudutcion, at least to those of you who collect Westcoast & soul albums. Their "Shine" album in 1980 is a true Westcoast Classic with David Foster producing, and AWB member Alan Gorrie´s album "Sleepless Nights" from 1985 is another total gem.

Anyway, some fans may have lost touch if this band in the 90´s, but this 1996 release really deserves to be mentioned. "Soul Tattoo" is a really good CD in the vein of TOWER OR POWER and BILL CHAMPLIN, or why not EARTH WIND & FIRE and MICHAEL RUFF! So here you get both smooth westcoast with a soul touch, and funk based soul/rock that you can´t stand still to. Among the 12 songs I´d like to mention the nice westcoast semi-ballad "Every Beat Of My Heart" and the heavily Bill Champlin smelling "No Easy Way To Say Goodbye". However, all songs are worth listening to and this short review will hopefully be a nice reminder to some of you. No matter what some people say, there is good westcoast music to be found from the 90´s and the 2000´s.
