Here we have a band that should interest fans of 70s blues hard rock with bands like Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Lucifer’s Friend and some Southern rock influences a´la 38 Special. These guys are newcomers because the band features members of Ayreon, Rob Halford Band, After Forever and Rob Rock.
This band is led by the soulful vocalist Robert Soeterboek and guitarist Alan Cotton. Rest of the members are Reynold Carlson drums, Mike Davis bass, and Joost van den Broek keyboards and they have come up with very good album filled with lots of Hammond organ, strong riffs, arrangements and lovely harmony vocals. Yes, the harmonies of this album is really strong and it sounds powerful. They open up the album with the Deep Purple smelling Set Me Free with a heavy hammond. Colorado is a stunning song with great hooklines and a strong catchy chorus that reminds of 38 Special, best song of the album. Pretty Maureen is filled with melodies and strong harmony vocals. Leave Me Blue is a nice soulful piano blues thing with wonderful harmonies. The Game is strong blues rocker.
So if you miss some good 70s blues moments then I think The Cotton Soeterboek Band will take care of that because this is album filled with nice songs in that genre. The album has just a running time over 31 minutes and that feels a bit short but it’s better to have 9 good songs rather than filled it up with fillers. Nice debut album.
