The soundtrack for the movie ONCE is a great soundtrack to a movie that has been overlooked by many people including myself (not sure how this one got by me). The music in this film is beyond emotional. I recommend this film and soundtrack to any fan of music especially those of indie folk rockers like Damien Rice and Iron and Wine. The story is about (unnamed) Guy, a Dublin guitarist/singer-songwriter who makes a living by fixing vacuum cleaners in his Dad´s Hoover repair shop by day, and singing and playing for money on the Dublin streets by night and sometimes by day. There´s an (unnamed) Girl also who plays piano when she gets a chance, and does odd jobs by day and takes care of her mom and her daughter by night. Guy meets Girl, and they get to know each other and share their love of music in a music store for the first time. As the Girl helps the Guy to put together a demo disc that he can take to London in hope of landing a music contract. During the same several day period, the Guy and the Girl work through their past loves, and reveal their budding love for one another, through their songs.

The music of the film is mostly but Glen Hansard (an Academy-Award winning songwriter, actor, and vocalist/guitarist for Irish rock group The Frames). This mostly acoustic based soulful music sometimes accompanied by the band or piano is so powerful and full of emotion it makes those metal bands that think they have emotion in their music, look like Casper the Friendly Ghost. When you hear Hansard belt out those vocals and hit these notes you will feel the goose bumps on the back of your spine. The Damien Rice-esque vocals are familiar when Marketa Irglova fills out the tunes with her haunting vocals and also fantastic piano songs. I must say for any indie rock fan, fan of music films or even love story film watchers, this is a must see movie. the movie is based around the soundtrack as i believe there is more music in the film then there is dialog. A fantastic display of passion, poetry, and musical love. Once will inspire any musician to go create their own soundtrack to life. A very inspiring tale of two musicians in their music journey of life and love.
