Yes it´s true, Unruly Child is here. They have reunited with the original line up with Marcie Free, Bruce Gowdy, Guy Allison, Jay Schellen and Larry Antonino from the classic debut from 1992 produced by Beau Hill (Ratt, Winger, The Storm, Europe). After the stunning debut album, Bruce Gowdy has released two UC albums, Waiting for the sun (MTM 1998) with Kelly Hansen (Hurricane, Foreigner) and UCIII (Frontiers 2003) with Philip Bardowel (Places of power) on lead vocals. There is also The Basement demos from 2002.
This new album sounds like the real follow up to the first album and its filled with the typical Unruly Child sound. I have to say this album builds up like the first one with two rockers that is followed by some AOR killers. The only thing that don´t match the debut is the power in the production, but its still good and better than many productions out there. The album opens up with Show me the money that reminds of On the rise from the debut album and they end the song with the intro from that song, cool and nice rocker.
Next up is Insane that I think is the weakest song of the album, When we were the young shows the best side of this band and its a killer AOR song with fantastic melodies and arrangement. The chorus is huge and catchy with stunning harmonies and Marcie sings fabulous. This is the Who´s crying now song of the album. Tell another lie is the ballad of the album and has a To be your everything feel over it. Love is blind is an awesome AOR rocker and a chorus to die for with first class harmonies. When worlds collide is a strong midtempo song with an excellent melodic AOR chorus. On Read my mind, Marcie shows what an outstanding she is an deliver impressive vocals.
Very first time is an AOR gem that reminds of Foreigner and the chorus is nothing but stunning, if you think Marcie sings different on this album I can say that she sounds very much like Mark Free did back then and she sings just as good now and its a pleasure to hear her voice, welcome back Marcie. This is an album you cant miss because Unruly Child has recorded a damn fine comeback album, not as good as the debut but close. So what are you waiting for? Get yourself a copy of this album right away. Highly recommended.
