Review

It has taken four years for David Cook to follow up This Loud Morning. Maybe it's taken a little too long as it is a different type of music nowadays climate where this kind of modern rock doesn’t get much space. However, he has on Digital Vein put on a somewhat more modern sound that is more electronic and pop oriented than its predecessor. Think that it is tastefully done and is happy that he retained some of the rock style that brings out his cruel voice in a very good way.
When it comes to songs, Digital Vein is weaker than This Loud Morning, but it is not too surprising either. For me, his 2011 album is one of the best in the genre with a fantastic set of tracks. So have to say that this feels like a somewhat pale copy when there are just a couple of songs that reach up to predecessors level, actually. Both "Carry You" and the first single "Criminals" is there, but is on the other the only ones that comes up in an impressive level unfortunately. His cover of Chris Isaac's "Wicked Game" is cool with its electronic and evocative sense, where we can here what a great vocalist he is.
Is doubtful that he will have any success with this album, but if you like the more pop orientated side of Modern Rock, it's definitely worth checking out.
