Hot Streak is the second album from the super-group, The Winery Dogs. For this is a band bands that really deserve the name given what Richie Kotzen (Poison), Billy Sheehan (Mr.Big) and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theather) has released through the years. Do, however think that the characterization is even more correct by judging what was delivered on their self-titled debut, that as nothing else than a modern classic.
Richie has said this about Hot Streak: We elevated the band to the next level. [...] There's always that worry with a follow-up record when you have a first one that's so well received, but I believed in it from day one. [...] I also like the fact that there's a commonality between the first and second records - and there's an evolution overpriced too, as we've dug a little deeper.
That is spot on as Hot Streak shows somewhat a new side of the band that not can found on the debut. If the 2013 record was very homogeneous and even, this new album feels more like a song-orientated album. It does not have the same depth and stable ground, but when it comes to songs, is has clearly more tops that is crunching good. Is thinking of "Captain Love" with its amazing riffs and bluesy melody is a track that sits direct and is my all time favorite with them. Also the rhythmical and progressive title track is insanely good as well as the more melodic "How Long" and "Ghost Town".
So overall once again a killer album from one of the best hard-rock bands out there as Hot Streak is a very safe purchase.
