I like bands from Canada. I like Our Lady Peace, I like Danko Jones, Alexisonfire, City and Color, etc. Since the last couple of years I also really like a band called Monster Truck. As I guess you can tell by their ´name, this is not slow, acoustic music. No, this is full-on rock’n’roll. I would say very close to a band like Wilson when it comes to style and sound.
This album starts off with the appropriately titled “Why Are You Not Rocking?”, a song where they sing that rock n’ roll can save our lives. A short but brilliant way to open the album. And it continues in the same way, track after track with bluesy, groovy rock with hints of stoner and boogie rock here and there. First single “The Enforcer” is a prime example of what the album sounds like. They have for example found a sound close to Black Stone Cherry on closing song “Enjoy the Time”.
I must say that I am positive about the variation among the tracks and there are some slower songs as well as the up-tempo ones. I also really like the voice of lead singer Jon Harvey. I think it fits the music perfectly. The rest of the band also delivers as is tight, joyful and filled with nice guitar riffs and pounding bass and drum lines.
OK, this album might not actually save your life, but it is guaranteed to at least brighten it for a bit. For fans of Wilson, Black Stone Cherry and similar bands. If you like their previous work, this is a no-brainer. If you miss out on this, you might find yourself having to answer this: Why are you not rocking with the rest of us? This is some excellent work, eh!
